Friday Favorites

It's been a while since I've done a Friday Favorites post.  I feel like it has taken me a while to get back into the swing of things since the holidays.  Then this past week, our heat was out for nearly three days before it could be fixed (with temperatures only reaching 5 degrees).  We put a space heater in R's room and then kept a fire going all day…..needless to say we were freezing.  We also found out that in cold temperatures, the memory foam on our mattress freezes and hardens…..who knew?  To top it off Red got poison ivy all over his face while cutting firewood, and looked like Rocky Balboa post fight for the past few days before I could convince him to get meds.  It's just been one of those weeks when you let out a sigh of relief when Friday rolls around.  You know how you often take your health for granted until you get sick?  Well, we are grateful for a warm house over here.  Enough of me- here are some of my favorites from around the web:

This room…the entire house really
This bathroom
and I know you've probably seen this dining area, but I had to repost it- because it's that beautiful

We went on a very scary hike on our trip to Norway, and this is very nearby.  I recognized it immediately.  Skip to 3:50 on the video and you will see some of the crazy hikers we saw while we were there.

First Impressions

Our entryway needs help.  Admittedly, it's not always the area highest on my priority list, but it is the first impression guests have when they enter our home.  Not to mention, there is an added coziness a nice entryway brings to a home.  I've been slowly collecting images/ideas for our entryway over the past few months, and I'm finally starting to make some headway.  I thought I would share some of my inspiration with you:

(I apologize in advance for the resolution in this next one, but I couldn't bear to leave it out)

Needing more Green

As mentioned in my last post, the succulents I bought six months ago are still alive and well (nothing short of a miracle).  I'm feeling that I may have graduated to a higher maintenance type of plant…..and ever since I saw the below planter over on Sarah Yates blog, I have been loving the idea of a nice planter for our entryway.

Maybe not for our entryway, but here are some other ones that have caught my eye…..

Our Living Room: A Progress Report

Normally the living room is the first room to come together for me after a move,  but this room has taken its sweet time.  To be fair, we had to paint before anything was hung….and that took a while.  That was followed by a lot of furniture rearranging until we settled on this.

What needs to be done:
1.  I'm not completely satisfied with our gallery wall (if you could call it that), but I haven't decided on anything yet.
2.  I'd like to put something brass in here…..somewhere. There's too much wood going on for me.
3.  The little bit of our chairs that you can see shows that they need to be reupholstered  (those are some temporary covers that I dyed, and didn't get the right color).
4.  The rest of the room (ha)

* I'd like to note that, those succulents you see in the background have been alive in my house for six months now.  That's a first for me!  Maybe I can move on to some higher maintenance plants…..

DIY Washi Tape Hanger

So I took an unannounced couple weeks off for Christmas, and I'm so glad I did.  I loved getting time to clear my mind and give undivided attention to my family.  I didn't really make any specific New Years Resolutions for this year, but I did spend a lot of time reassessing/thinking about my time and how I want to spend it this next year.  So if you could call it a resolution-  I resolve to declutter my life…..to make room for more quality (in all areas) vs. seeing how many things I can juggle at once.  That also translates here to this blog.  If you look back in my archives, you will see how not only this blog has evolved but my taste/style.  Though I inwardly cringe at some of those earlier posts, the reasons I haven't deleted any of them is because I think it's important to be ok with imperfection, with the evolution of something not just the end product.   So, this year you may see a little less of me (not too much I think), but hopefully it will be more authentic to me and my season of life right now…..my "not-perfectly-on-top-of-everything" life.
That said, this is a simply DIY I did for R's room.  I wanted to display this dress from her first birthday, and decided to dress up the hanger a little.  All you need?  A wooden hanger and some wash tape.
