I've received a number of questions/emails about the sources for items in our nursery, and thought it would be helpful to compile a list for you.  The bird "art piece" I originally made as a mobile, but it was too much with the painting, so I decided to still use it because I liked it so much.  The running joke between Red and I is that I come up with all the good ideas and then get people to do all the work for me.  That said, my mom is an amazing seamstress and helped me sew each of these little birds as well as my crib sheet (thanks mom:).

For those of you who have asked, I found the pattern for the birds on a site that is no longer active (sorry). I'm sure you could make you own pattern fairly easily though. We stuffed them, and then I found the driftwood at our local beach.

Well it's finally done!  I have to say I had way more fun with this room than I initially anticipated.  I have never been a super "baby" person.  So when I approached the idea of a nursery with the mindset of designing a beautiful room vs. the mindset of creating a generic baby room it became really fun really fast.  Now I just can't wait to meet our little girl.....

All of the blogs are abuzz with what to wear this Memorial Day weekend and everyone is making plans for weekend trips/cookouts.  I can understand this, because I don't think I realized the weight of Memorial Day until the past few years when it became personal.  Run to Remember is an organization close to my heart.  Both my and Lisa's husband were deployed at the same time from Ft. Lewis, WA.  Though I didn't get to know her until a few months after her husband John passed, her strength and her story impacted me in more ways than I can say.  I went to a lot of Soldier homecomings that summer, and it was very real the number of guys who were not coming home.  This first picture is from the 2010 Rock n' Roll Seattle Marathon where I was able to be a part of Run to Remember and hold a flag representing a Fallen Soldier in the unit.   I stood next to a young widow my age holding her flag with her baby and stroller next to her, and we cheered as other widows ran for their husbands.  It was the most moving experience I have yet to be a part of (see the video here).  I have never been more proud of the sacrifices made for our country, past and present.  So this Memorial Day, I encourage you to take a moment......better yet run or walk a few miles and pledge here.  Get your family involved!   Also check out Lisa's story featured in Runner's World here.   Enjoy your weekend and see you Tuesday. 

I know a lot of these images are/have been floating around the internet for a while, but that's the thing about stripes.  Everybody loves them.  They are a classic and a staple, and will always be around.  Somehow stripes have the ability to remain fresh and new every season.  They make old images still relevant, and that's what draws me.

Ok.  Maybe you've already seen this, but on the off chance you haven't I just had to share.  This timber archway you are looking at was made for Clerkenwell Design Week in London by designer Giles Miller.  It's comprised of 20,000 wooden hexagonal pixels all set at different angles.    Pretty cool, right?  I can't stop staring at it.  Check out Miller's site too, he's got some major talent.

You may recall that mirror I was working on last fall and me promising to do a tutorial?  Well, it would have happened sooner, but I ran out of driftwood and the snow kept me from finding the right pieces( at least that's my story).  I finally finished, and even feel a little silly doing a  tutorial because it's so simple and uncomplicated.

Last week I celebrated my last day of work with getting a much needed haircut.  I'm lucky enough to have a friend who is an amazing stylist, so she came over to my place and we made a day of it with a couple other girlfriends getting their hair done as well.  It was an overall fun girl day, and I decided to try these Coconut-Lemon Meltaways as a healthy treat.  They did not disappoint!
